Air Amplifier Delicately Picks and Places Chocolate Squares
A candy maker cuts large cakes of chocolate into small squares. After cutting, they need to be transferred to a machine which individually wraps them. The operators were transferring these by hand, but they wanted to automate the process and incorporate a "pick and place" vacuum device. The chocolate squares are too fragile, however, to be picked up with using the more commonly considered vacuum generators (like our E-Vacs); these would damage the surface, causing unacceptable aesthetic defects. Instead, they selected a Model 120024 4" (102mm) Super Air Amplifier, fitted a stainless steel mesh screen over the suction end, and attached it to a pick and place arm. The relatively low vacuum picked up the chocolate squares delicately without damaging them, and transferred them to the wrapping machine.
