FAQ

  • If I simultaneously connect the Summing Remote Display and the Data Logger to the Digital Flowmeter, will the accuracy of the reported air consumption be changed?

No, connecting both the Summing Remote Display and the Data Logger will not affect the accuracy of the Digital Flowmeter.

  • Can I connect the USB Data Logger to the Summing Remote Display?

No, there are no connections on the Summing Remote Display, the USB Data Logger must be directly connected to the Digital Flowmeter.

  • Can I pulse/cycle the compressed air to your products?

Yes, EXAIR is committed to the more efficient use of compressed air and recommends limiting the use of compressed air for only the duration it is required to perform a specific function.

Cycling is efficient because EXAIR product’s effects are virtually instantaneous. Cycling will reduce overall air use for more cost effective operation. With the use of an EXAIR Electronic Flow Control (EFC), you can control the flow of air with any one of the 16 programmable modes.

  • How do I know how much air EXAIR products can save our company?

It is helpful to know how much air you are currently using. You can make an estimate or use our Digital Flowmeter to determine the air consumption of your system. The Digital Flowmeter is available from 3/4"-2" pipe sizes. After knowing your current air consumption you can use this calculator to determine savings.

  • How can EXAIR’s Ultrasonic Leak Detector help?

EXAIR's Ultrasonic Leak Detector is an important tool in any compressed air optimization program. The Ultrasonic Leak Detector can find compressed air leaks in your system which can be repaired. Repaired leaks can increase compressor output up to 30%.

  • Can I move the Digital Flow Meter from place to place?

The Digital Flowmeter is meant to be a permanent installation to provide feedback of compressed air consumption. It should be installed at each major leg of your compressed air system to better understand your requirements. Uninstalling the Digital Flowmeter is not recommended but it can be done with the use of a pipe repair clamp.

  • How does the Digital Flow Meter fit with my compressed air savings program?

Once the Digital Flowmeter is installed at each major leg of your compressed air system you can determine how much air you are using in applications and/or losing through leaks. You can begin to install more efficient blow off and end use compressed air components and quantify your savings. And you can be confident your compressor has enough capacity for your applications.

  • Your catalog offers Digital Flowmeters for schedule 40 steel pipe sizes from 1/2" through 6". Do you offer models for copper pipe?

Yes, we offer 3/4" to 4" Digital Flowmeters for Type L copper pipe. Please specify which type of pipe you are using.

  • What are the operating modes for the Summing Remote Display?

1.) Rate Mode - Duplicates the reading of the attached Digital Flowmeter to which it is connected.
2.) Daily Usage Mode - Displays the usage in thousands of standard cubic feet during the most recent 24 hour period.
3.) Cumulative Usage Mode - Displays the total air usage in thousands of standard cubic feet since the unit was energized.  Note: The decimal point can be moved to change resolution if necessary.  After reaching 9,999 , the meter will roll back to 0.

  • How do I change the mode of operation on the Summing Remote Display?

There is a small button on the side of the housing used to toggle between the display modes.

  • How long is the cable that connects the Summing Remote Display to the Digital Flowmeter?

The stock cable length from EXAIR is 50 linear ft.  (15.2m).  This is the maximum recommended length for the cable.

  • Is it possible to have my Digital Sound Level Meter calibrated?

Yes, we offer an NIST traceable calibration and repair for damaged units for the Digital Sound Level Meters.  Please contact EXAIR for a quote.

  • Can the EFC control 2 solenoid valves?

If the application requires simultaneous operation of two valves based on input from one photoelectric sensor, we have an option for a Dual Valve EFC. Contact an Application Engineer for assistance.

  • Can I make the Digital Flowmeter portable?

The Digital Flowmeter could be mounted to a section of pipe with couplings that would allow it to be relocated to any area you wish to test (keeping in mind the restrictions in the next paragraph).

The Digital Flowmeter must be mounted to a length of pipe that has at least thirty diameters of straight pipe up stream and five diameters downstream.  (Example: 30 diameters for a 1" Schedule 40 pipe = 30 x 1" = 30" of straight pipe.)
Avoid installing the Digital Flowmeter downstream of any item that could distort or concentrate the flow, such as a partially-closed valve, a regulator, a filter, or moisture separator, two closely-spaced elbows in different planes, a long-radius elbow, an increase in pipe size, or a curved hose.  For these situations, allow at least 50 diameters of straight pipe between any such item and the meter.  Select a location that meets these requirements and also provides good visibility from the plant floor.

  • What is the range of the Digital Flowmeters?

The list below gives the calibrated ranges for each Digital Flowmeter.  The documented accuracy within these ranges is 5% of the reading, plus 1% of full scale for air temperatures between 40°F and 120°F (4°C - 49°C):

     Part Number

     Description

    Flow Range

     9090 1/2 Schedule 40 Steel Pipe  1-90 SCFM
     9091 3/4" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 1-120 SCFM
     9092 1" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 1-160 SCFM
     9093 1-1/4" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 2-150 SCFM
     9094 1-1/2" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 2-200 SCFM
     9095 2" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 3-350 SCFM
     9096 2-1/2" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 5-500 SCFM
     9097 3" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 7-700 SCFM
     9098 4" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 15-1,500 SCFM
     9099 5" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 20-2,500 SCFM
     X121608 6" Schedule 40 Steel Pipe 30-3,000 SCFM

The units will read flows up to 50% more than the maximum calibrated range; accuracy is 7% of the reading for air temperatures between 40° and 120°F (4° - 49°C).

  • Can the Digital Flowmeter be used with a Data Acquisition system?

Yes, the Digital Flowmeter provides Milliamp (4-20mA), Pulse, and Serial Communication (RS-485) Outputs.

  • How far can the Summing Remote Display for the Digital Flowmeter be mounted from the meter?

The Summing Remote Display includes a 50' (15.2m) long cable to attach to the Digital Flowmeter.  The maximum length of the cable that can be used for proper operation is 60' (18.28m).

  • What sound level do your products produce?

EXAIR has done extensive engineering to reduce the noise levels on all products. As you page through the catalog or look at the various sections on the web site, you will notice that a sound level has been given at a standard working distance of 3' for most of the products. In some blowoff applications, the noise level can be higher due to the part configuration that might produce wind shear. No sound level is given in this case.
