The Vortex Tube Performance Charts give approximate temperature drops (and rises) from inlet air temperature produced by a Vortex Tube set at each cold fraction. Assuming no fluctuation of inlet temperature or pressure, a Vortex Tube will reliably maintain temperature within ±1°F.

NEMA 12 are stainless steel internally and aluminum externally. NEMA 4 are aluminum. NEMA 4X are 303 stainless steel and also stocked made from 316 stainless steel.

The Digital Flowmeter is meant to be a permanent installation to provide feedback of compressed air consumption. It should be installed at each major leg of your compressed air system to better understand your requirements. Uninstalling the Digital Flowmeter is not recommended but it can be done with the use of a pipe repair clamp.

Yes, chemicals other than coolant may be suitable for use with the Reversible Drum Vac. Contact an Application Engineer for a list of the materials of construction for the various Reversible Drum Vac components. This will allow you to determine if the specific chemical you are using will be suitable for use with the Reversible Drum Vac components.

The nozzles can be changed on the Safety Air Guns but adapters may be required for proper fit. Contact an Application Engineer for details.

Super Air Amplifier = 275°F (135°C)

Aluminum Adjustable Air Amplifier = 275°F (135°C)

Stainless Steel Adjustable Air Amplifier = 400°F (204°C)

High Temperature Air Amplifier = 700°F (374°C)

Super Air Nozzles are available in zinc aluminum alloy, PEEK and Type 316 stainless steel.

Zinc aluminum for temperatures up to 250°F (121°C)
PEEK for temperatures up to 320°F (160°C)
Stainless Steel for temperatures up to 800°F (426.67°C)

Yes, EXAIR Stay Set Hoses can be used with smaller sizes of our Air Knives. Please contact an Application Engineer to discuss your specific requirements.

There are a few reasons why this may be occurring.

  • Check to see if the hot air exhaust is open, it is best to close it completely and back it out one full turn. The Vortex Tube is made to perform best when the hot air exhaust is not completely  closed.
  • Check your inlet pressure. You must check the pressure right at the inlet of the Vortex Tube while it is operating. You will most likely need 80 to 100 PSIG for best performance.
  • Check to see if your Vortex Tube is clean. You can do this by removing the cold cap and inspecting the parts for dirt, oil and other debris. Simply clean the parts and the inside of the tube as well as possible to regain your performance. Remember, the Vortex Tube needs clean, dry air to perform best.
  • Make sure the cold cap or the cold muffler is tight.
  • Reduce back pressure as much as possible. The performance of a Vortex Tube deteriorates with back pressure on the cold air exhaust. Pressure up to 2 PSIG will not change performance. 5 PSIG will change the cold air temperature approximately 5°F. If cold air ducting is used the total cross sectional area should be equal or greater than the area of the Vortex Tube cold air exhaust.
  • Make sure you are checking the cold air temperature immediately inside the cold end exhaust, or use a pipe nipple attached to the cold end to prevent air entrainment in order to get a more accurate reading.

No, field modification is not possible due to the internal machining of an Air Knife. Cutting the Air Knife would expose the internal plenum with no practical means of resealing it. Air Knives may be ordered in any custom length.

Yes, our Air Nozzles are engineered to maintain OSHA dead end pressure standard 29 CFR 1910.242(b) and noise level exposure standard 29 CFR 1910.95(a).

If your Cabinet Cooler® System was purchased after January 2nd, 2008 there will be a small round silver sticker on the body of the Cabinet Cooler, at the compressed air inlet, that will display the air consumption in SCFM at 100 PSIG.

Once the Digital Flowmeter is installed at each major leg of your compressed air system you can determine how much air you are using in applications and/or losing through leaks. You can begin to install more efficient blow off and end use compressed air components and quantify your savings. And you can be confident your compressor has enough capacity for your applications.

In the majority of cases, poor performance can be attributed to restrictive air lines, fitting, quick connects or insufficient air supply.  Although the system pressure may be at 100 PSIG, pressure at the product will be considerably lower if it is being starved for air.  Check the installation and maintenance sheet that came with the product for proper air line sizes.

A good test is to install a pressure gauge at the inlet of the product.  Check the static pressure (with the product off) against the dynamic pressure (with the product running).  Any significant pressure drop is an indication of improperly sized air lines, a restriction in the line or the compressor hasn’t the capacity to supply the compressed air needed.

If the dynamic air pressure is within the operating range of the product, then dirt and contamination should be checked next.  If the nozzle(s) plug up, they do not operate properly.

Yes, EXAIR sells spiral reinforced PVC hose from 3/8" inside diameter through 3" inside diameter. This hose is connected to the Line Vac with a worm gear hose clamp which is provided with the purchase of the hose.

Yes, the Reversible Drum Vac will simply require more time to pressurize a larger vessel and push the liquid out. Caution: the Reversible Drum Vac will produce up to 5 psig internal pressure, make sure your vessel is rated more than 5 psi burst strength.
