No, for proper operation, the Vortex Tube cold outlet should not be subjected to any restrictions that would produce backpressure in excess of 5 PSIG. An Air Knife would restrict the flow of a Vortex Tube to the point where the backpressure is excessive and severely limit the cooling capacity of the Vortex Tube. The design of the air knife is to entrain large amounts of ambient air and add it to the airstream reaching your parts. The dilution of 1 part of cold air mixed with 30-40 parts of ambient temperature air will result in air temperatures reaching your part to be not much different than ambient temperature.

Yes, the Chip Vac can be purchased with a longer hose. Standard vacuum hoses can be purchased in 10’ and 20’ lengths. Other custom lengths of PVC hose are available by special order. Note: Chip Vac is designed for use with a 10’ hose. Longer hose lengths may affect performance depending upon the application.

Yes, the Digital Flowmeter provides Milliamp (4-20mA), Pulse, and Serial Communication (RS-485) Outputs.

EXAIR manufactures Chip Vac systems for 5, 30, 55 and 110 gallon drums. The 5 gallon size is the only model which automatically includes the drum. The 30, 55 and 110 gallon Chip Vac systems can also be supplied with the entire drum or supplied without the drum if you already have an open top drum you plan on using.

The Summing Remote Display includes a 50' (15.2m) long cable to attach to the Digital Flowmeter.  The maximum length of the cable that can be used for proper operation is 60' (18.28m).

No, for proper operation, the Vortex Tube cold outlet should not be subjected to any restrictions that would produce backpressure in excess of 5 PSIG. The hot end exhaust can withstand pressure up to 30 PSIG (depending on the cold fraction). If backpressure exceeds 5 PSIG, then the performance of the Vortex Tube will deteriorate. The hot end exhaust can withstand pressure up  to 30 PSIG (depending on the cold fraction).

An Air Amplifier or Air Knife would restrict the flow of a Vortex Tube to the point where the backpressure is excessive and severely limit the cooling capacity of the Vortex Tube.

If the goal were chilled airflow coming from an Air Amplifier or Air Knife, it would be unrealistic to expect a temperature decrease in the total output flow of either device with chilled compressed air. Compressed air will make up a small fraction of the total airflow output from these devices. The net temperature out will be a mix of compressed and ambient air with ambient air the majority of the volume. The net effect is that the airflow is going to be the same or very close to ambient temperature surrounding an Air Amplifier or Air Knife.

A Super Air Wipe would restrict the flow of a Vortex Tube to the point where the backpressure is excessive and severely limit the cooling capacity of the Vortex Tube.

EXAIR has done extensive engineering to reduce the noise levels on all products. As you page through the catalog or look at the various sections on the web site, you will notice that a sound level has been given at a standard working distance of 3' for most of the products. In some blowoff applications, the noise level can be higher due to the part configuration that might produce wind shear. No sound level is given in this case.

The Chip Vac was designed for best performance with one vacuum hose. EXAIR has other products that may be better suited for your application.

The EFC will accept input voltage from 100-240V AC. It has an internal power supply which converts input voltage to 24V DC output voltage to operate the sensor, solenoid and timer.

The Chip Trapper includes two 5 micron filter bags with the unit. There are other filtration sizes available. The sizes are: 1, 5, 25, 50, 100, and 200 microns. The bags are available separately or one of each size is available in our sample pack.

The EFC is a very simple way to increase the compressed air efficiency of EXAIR’s products by providing an automatic control to turn the air flow on and off as needed. You will not have to rely upon any manual valve which can be forgotten and you can even save air in between parts with its fast acting valve. The Chip Trapper's washable and re-usable Filter Bag is made of polyester. The bag is available in 1, 5, 25, 50, 100, and 200 micron ratings.

The EFC should be selected according to the rated volume of flow (SCFM). You should choose an EFC which has enough flow capacity (SCFM) to operate your compressed air product.

The Filter Bag has a capacity of .713 ft3 or 5.33 Gallons (US). The weight capacity is 15 pounds.

It is important to know that the Air Knife is working properly before increasing the gap opening of the Air Knife (installing thicker shims). Low flow could be the result of restrictive fittings, undersized lines, a clogged filter, an undersized compressor or dirt clogging the slot of the Air Knife (Super or Standard). Using a pipe tee, install a pressure gauge at one of the inlets of the Air Knife to insure that full line pressure is available to it. If full line pressure is available and additional flow is required, shut off the compressed air supply and disassemble the Air Knife. If dirt is present, clean all of the component parts and reassemble without installing a thicker shim (or additional shims). If all parts appear to be clean, we suggest that you install a shim of the next higher thickness since this can produce a dramatic change in air volume and velocity. Be sure to tighten each screw snugly (7.5 ft/lbs). We suggest that the shim thickness be increased by .001" (.03mm) increments until the desired performance is achieved.
