Cleaning Motor Rotors
Customer manufactures small electric motors. After they machine and balance the rotors, they need to remove all metal fines otherwise it will cause a short. The cleaning process is complicated by the fact the rotor is magnetic and attracts the finings. The customer constructed a holding fixture made of a motor and a chuck then mounted a Model 2003 3" (76mm) Standard Air Knife to blow onto the rotor as the motor spun it at a high RPM. This setup was more effective than the previous method of manually blowing off with a blow gun. It also enabled the operator to complete the cleaning operation within the the machine cycle time.
