Cooling A Taper On A Machining Operation

A manufacturer of gas valves was having trouble machining a critical taper on a brass casting. The trouble was caused by heat buildup in the material and on the tool. By installing a Model 5215 Cold Gun they have eliminated the problem, reduced scrap, and extended tool life.

  1. The Cold Gun Aircoolant System (available in standard or high power versions) produces a stream of clean, cold air at 50°F (28°C) below supply air temperature. It will remove heat to prolong tool life and increase productivity on machining operations when liquid coolants cannot be used. Systems include the Cold Gun, flexible single point hose assembly and drain filter separator.

  2. The Cold Gun Aircoolant System with two cold outlets surrounds a part to be cooled with a stream of clean, cold air at 50°F (28°C) below supply air temperature. It will remove heat to prolong tool life and increase productivity on machining operations when liquid coolants cannot be used. Systems include the Cold Gun, flexible dual point hose assembly and filter separator.
