High Power Cold Gun Cools Dry Turning Process
A manufacturer of ordinance turns a 12L15 steel on a lathe. They machine some internal and external features on the steel cylinder. They had originally machined these features using a liquid coolant but it left an unwanted residue on the parts and led to a secondary cleaning operation which was undesirable. They have since done this machining dry. Dry machining resulted in a 25°F temperature rise in the parts which also produces tolerance variations they need to eliminate. An EXAIR Model 5330 High Power Cold Gun with Dual Point Hose Kit has been added to the dry machining process to eliminate any significant tolerance variations. This has allowed the customer to continue the dry machining process and kept production rates up to speed.
